The Pro version
What is free, what Pro adds, how to start it and cancel it, and what stays yours if you stop.
Terza Torre is free, with no ceiling on games or imports: the archive, importing from files and from the online sites, exporting to PGN, the editor with all the annotations, the live engine, studies, searching by words and by data. Pro adds the tools to prepare and to work on many games together. It is a yearly subscription from the App Store, with a free trial.
What it adds
| Position search | A position, a pawn structure, the material or an imbalance, searched for in all the games: from the search window, from the board and from the explorer. |
| Smart collections | The results of a search saved in a collection and kept up to date automatically. |
| Edit several games at once | The data of many games changed in one go. |
| Automatic analysis | The engine analyses whole games and judges the moves, one game or many. |
| All the statistics | Every chapter after the Portrait: how your games end, the openings, the opponents, the tournaments, how you play, time. See Statistics. |
| Unlimited collections | The free version keeps three collections. |
| Repertoire | Your openings with White and with Black, move by move: suggested from your games, imported from a PGN file or from an online study, printed and marked in the notation of your games. See The repertoire. |
| Opponents’ dossiers | A dossier for each opponent: who they are, their games from the archive, their online accounts and where they meet your repertoire. See Opponents. |
| Printing and PDF | Games and studies, booklets of many games with their index, your repertoire and an opponent’s scouting report, printed or saved as PDF and laid out like a chess book. See Printing and PDF. |
Still free, beside what belongs to Pro:
- the explorer on the exact position in your games, with Me as White and Me as Black;
- all the search fields, except the position and the Opponent menu;
- creating, opening and deleting collections up to three, and deleting a smart collection;
- the data of one game at a time;
- the live engine in the editor, and the Analysis summary of a game already analysed;
- the Portrait of the statistics;
- studies, without limits, those taken from online too;
- exporting everything to PGN.
Where you see Pro
Nothing is hidden: a Pro button, item or tab stays where it is, with the PRO mark, or with a padlock in the menus. Choosing it opens the Terza Torre Pro window on that feature. The White repertoire, Black repertoire and Opponents items of the sidebar, and smart collections, leave you on the list you were on and open the window.
The window also opens from the Terza Torre › Terza Torre Pro… menu, under About Terza Torre, and from Settings (⌘,), Pro tab: there you find your version, the list of what Pro adds and, in the free version, Get Terza Torre Pro….
Starting it
At the bottom of the window is the App Store bar: on the left the price, as Apple gives it in your country’s currency, and the length of the trial; on the right Redeem code…, Restore purchases and the blue button, Try it free for … or, if you have already used the trial, Subscribe. Below, Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
- The trial is free for the period the bar says; then the subscription renews every year until you cancel it. The trial can be taken only once per Apple Account.
- Payment is handled by Apple, with your Apple Account: Terza Torre sees no cards or payment details.
- Restore purchases finds the subscription again on another Mac with the same Apple Account.
- Redeem code… opens Apple’s window for a promotional code.
- Waiting for approval: with Family Sharing’s Ask to Buy, Pro starts as soon as the purchase is approved.
The Terms of Use are Apple’s standard agreement for App Store apps; what it means, in plain words, is on the Terms of Use page.
Cancelling
With Pro active, the window’s bar and the Pro tab of Settings say where you are: when the trial ends, when it renews, or until when Pro lasts if you have cancelled it. Manage subscription opens Apple’s page with your Apple Account’s subscriptions, where you cancel it. It must be cancelled at least a day before the renewal.
If Apple cannot renew it, the window says so: check the payment method in the App Store.
If you stop
What you did with Pro stays in the archive, and comes back as it was when Pro starts again:
- the collections beyond the third stay and can be used, and games go in and out of them; a new one can be created when you are back under three;
- smart collections, the repertoire and the opponents’ dossiers stay in the archive, even if without Pro they do not open; a smart collection can be deleted;
- analysed games keep their analysis, and its summary can be looked at.
Games, annotations, studies and the analyses the engine wrote into the games belong to the archive, not to Pro.
