A dossier is a person: the rows of the archive that are them, their online accounts and your notes. Their games are not copied: the dossier finds them in the archive every time you open it, including those imported later. Opponents, in the Preparation section of the sidebar, opens the page: on the left the dossiers, on the right the one chosen.

Creating a dossier

New opponent…, the + above the dossiers, searches the archive’s players by Name or FIDE ID: first the names that start with what you type, then the others that have each word you typed at the start of one of theirs, in any order, regardless of capitals and accents. For each row, the FIDE ID, the games, the date of the last one, the Elo and how many are Against you.

Choose all the rows that are the person: a player without a FIDE ID is one row for each spelling of the name in the archive (word order does not count: “Mario Rossi” and “Rossi, Mario” are the same row, “Rossi, M.” another; see Player names) and the search does not guess variants (“Mueller” does not find “Müller”). Then Create the dossier. A row that is already in another dossier says so, In the dossier of …, and cannot be chosen.

If they are not in the archive yet, Create from the name… with Surname, Name and, if you know it, the FIDE ID (optional): their games will arrive with the import. If that player is already in someone else’s dossier, the app says so and opens that dossier.

Faster, from the list: right click on a game → Prepare against and the opponent’s name. If they already have a dossier, that one opens, otherwise the search with their row already chosen. Met lately, in the empty search and on the page without dossiers, suggests the opponents of your latest games.

At the top of the dossier

The name, and below it the FIDE ID, the last Elo with the date and the tournament, the games in the archive and how many against you. Beside it, Scouting report and ⋯ (Rename…, Delete the dossier…).

Below, four boxes: Against you, Over the board and Online, how many of their games of each kind are in the archive, and Their accounts, how many online accounts the dossier has.

Where you meet

The positions of your repertoire that their games really reach. The app follows your repertoire and their games together from the initial position, move by move, as long as they go the same way: where the roads part, a card is born. Positions are compared as positions: if they get there by another move order, they still meet it.

  • Opponent with White or Opponent with Black: their games with that colour meet your repertoire of the other. The first time, the dossier chooses the colour they have more games with; after that it remembers the one you chose, dossier by dossier, even when you reopen the app.
  • Up to move 10: up to which move to compare your repertoire with their games; the moves after it are not checked. The choices are 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 and 20. Lower, you look only at the first moves, those that really matter tomorrow; higher, the repertoire lines that end early show up too. It applies to all dossiers while the app is open.
  • Their games filters as in the repertoire: Over the board and online, Over the board or Online, and the years. The cards and the explorer follow the filter; the number beside it is their games with that colour that meet the filter.

The cards are in order of how many of their games get there: the first is the one you are most likely to meet. At least four are shown, in whole rows; Show all opens the others, Show fewer closes them again. On each card, at the top, a coloured mark and a title:

MarkWhenWhat to do
not foreseen, in redIt is their turn and they play a move your repertoire does not have. The card shows the position after their move, and the move is the title. This is the work to do: find an answer.
hole, in orangeYour repertoire foresees their move but has no reply of yours (within the chosen Up to move) and their games go on. Title No move of yours.Choose your move.
ends, in orangeYour line ends with a move of yours (within the chosen Up to move) and their games go on. Title The repertoire ends.Extend the line.
your ground, in the Mac’s accent colour, usually blueIt is your turn, and the move of your repertoire, which is the title, has never come up in their games.Nothing: from there you know the position better than they do.
ready, in greenYour repertoire reaches the chosen Up to move along a road their games take. Title Prepared up to move 10.Nothing: you are prepared up to there.

Below, the position, drawn from your side with the board colours and pieces chosen in Settings; the moves from the initial position; a sentence that explains the card and says what they or their opponents played there, for example “Your repertoire foresees this move of theirs and has no answer to it: their opponents played …”; how many of their games get there and Their score; and, if you have already got there in a game between you, Against you here: +1 =0 −2.

A click on a card takes the explorer there, further down.

If there are no cards, the section says why: your repertoire of that colour is empty (with Open the repertoire), none of their games in the archive is with that colour, none fits the filter, or with this filter your roads do not meet.

Explore their games

A board where you play the moves, with the move bar of the whole app below it, the magnifying glass and Share, and the keyboard’s ← → arrows. Beside it, or below on a narrow screen, the explorer on their games: when it is their turn, their moves; when it is yours, those of their opponents, with their results. Where you have not played any moves yet, → plays the explorer’s first, the most played in their games: pressing it several times you go along their most played line.

When it is their turn, the You reply column gives, for each of their moves, your repertoire’s reply; hole if the repertoire foresees their move but has no reply of yours; not foreseen if it does not foresee it. Show full list brings into the list their games with their colour, from that position. With the magnifying glass, Search this position and New study from here, as under every board.

The rest of the dossier

How they play: a table with Their score and Games With White, With Black, Against a higher Elo, Against a lower or equal Elo, and Over the board and Online over all their games; below, the draws and how many by the 25th move, and the average length of the games. The colour and Elo rows count their games in the filter, with both colours.

Who they are: the rows of the archive that are them, with FIDE ID, games, last, Elo and Against you. Add a player… opens the same search, for another spelling of the name or the row with their FIDE ID; ✕ takes a row out of the dossier, and its games stay in the archive.

Their accounts online: the site and the Account name, then Add. Beside each, how many games and when you downloaded them (“not downloaded yet” until you do). Download their games… opens the import on that account, with all its history: the games already in the archive are skipped. An account takes the games of its nickname as it is written, capitals aside: “rossi-mario” does not take those of “Rossi, Mario”, who for the app is another person. Their games go into the archive like all the others: they are not yours, and they touch neither your statistics nor your repertoire.

My notes: what you know about them, what to play, how it went last time. They save themselves, with the dossier.

The scouting report

Scouting report, beside the name, puts on a single sheet what you need for revision: who they are, which colour they play and which you play, how many of their games count, the first three cards of Where you meet, their most played lines with that colour, the games between you and your notes. It follows the colour, the move and the filter chosen in the dossier.

It is read on the screen; Done closes it. Print…, beside it, puts it on paper as it is on the screen, and the PDF menu of the print panel saves it as a PDF, with the title “Scouting report: …” and the opponent’s name. See Printing and PDF.

Renaming and deleting

⋯ at the top of the dossier → Rename… or Delete the dossier…. With the dossier go its accounts and notes; the games stay in the archive.

A dossier used by a smart collection, with the opponent among the criteria, cannot be deleted: the app says so, The dossier cannot be deleted, with the collections that use it. First the opponent is taken out of the collection’s criteria.

Free and Pro

Opponents belong entirely to Pro: the dossiers, Prepare against, the opponents’ accounts in the import window and the Opponent menu of the search. Without Pro the Opponents row of the sidebar carries the PRO mark, and a click opens the Terza Torre Pro window. The dossiers you have stay in the archive even without Pro.
